Accelerates the Shift to a Paperless Office by Digitizing Handwritten Signatures

Wacom® launches Wacom® sign | pro PDF in the Asia Pacific Region, an application which allows people to sign their consent or approval in writing on a variety of digital documents by using it in combination with our pen tablet products such as Wacom  Signature Tablets.

In recent years, more and more companies are making efforts to digitize a variety of paper documents to streamline office work, which also contributes in reducing mass consumption of paper or security risks. However, in many cases the documents requiring handwritten signature or a seal after his/her consent and approval are stored as paper copies
Since it is difficult, especially for small to medium sized businesses, to develop their own system, the move to a paperless environment has come to a halt.

Wacom sign | pro PDF makes it possible to convert digital documents created in a variety of applications to Adobe® Acrobat® Reader compatible PDF files and, by using a Wacom pen tablet as a handwritten signature input device, place a handwritten signature anywhere in a document. If text has been changed, annotated or deleted after the document was signed, those statuses are displayed, enabling one to recognize whether any alterations were made to the document. A setting to block further writing is also available.

This solution can be used in companies as well as a variety of organizations, realizing paperless office environment while reducing cost and streamlining office works;
- Approval signatures of applications or requests for approval in the office
- Consent signatures of approval slips for all sorts of services at customer service
desks in public institutions or hotels and banks
- Examination consent forms in medical institutions such as hospitals
- Service reports for maintenance services

The growth in demand for handwritten digital signature input currently centers on Europe and the USA. By digitizing signatures for opening accounts at financial institutions or for credit card transactions and by systemizing procedural flows, they achieve operational efficiency and a paperless environment. Our signature solution has been introduced in many European, American and Asian countries, for instance by the Landesbank Berlin AG in Germany, Confederation of Spanish Savings Banks (CECA: Confederación Española de Cajas de Ahorros) and electronic notarized deeds in France. In Japan, digitization of credit card signature slips started at shopping centers and outlet parks run by LaLaport Management Co., Ltd. As well as the input devices, we will in future also offer related application development kits (SDK), and we will together with system integrators support the development of a digital signature system to meet our customers’ needs.

Overview of Wacom sign | pro PDF Functionality

  • Creation of PDF documents
    • A PDF document is created with a PDF printer. If the document you want to sign is not a PDF file but in another format such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint, they can easily be converted to PDF files.
  • Signing PDF documents
    • Documents are signed with a Wacom pen tablet as if signing paper. Because a pen pressure function is supported, the real signature can be recorded.
  • Saving documents
    • The signed PDF document is either saved or sent by email. The created document is compatible with Adobe Acrobat, and can be viewed with a PDF viewer such as Acrobat Reader. If any changes were made to the document after it was signed, this is communicated by a status mark.
